help with your pain
Over 20 million people in the UK have a musculoskeletal (MSK) condition, such as arthritis, back pain, shoulder pain and plantar fasciitis. Pain caused by MSK conditions can affect your quality of life and independence, making it difficult to complete work and social activities. In fact, every year 30 million work days are lost in the UK due to MSK conditions.
Pain can either be acute or chronic, depending on how long-lasting it is. Chronic pain typically stays long after the body has healed and may be constant or come and go. Acute pain is generally short-term and stops after what caused it has healed.
If you are suffering from acute back, muscle and joint pain, there are options available to manage and relieve it through self-care, such as Naprosyn® Pain Relief tablets which can offer up to 12 hours of uninterrupted pain relief, helping you to get on with your day.
What is pain relief?
Pain relief refers to methods used to reduce pain to a point where you can get on with your daily life . There are a number of ways to relieve pain, from gentle exercise and breathing techniques to analgesic (pain relief) medication. Analgesics are typically selected using the analgesic ladder, created by the World Health Organisation (WHO). This comprises three stages:
- Non-opoid analgesics, such as aspirin, paracetamol and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Mild opioids, such as codeine, for relief of moderate pain
- Strong opioids, for relief of moderate to severe pain. This type of medicine would only be available on prescription. If you experience moderate to severe pain, you should seek advice from a doctor.
Oral analgesics, such as NSAIDs are usually used to manage mild to moderate musculoskeletal pain due to their anti-inflammatory properties. These work by blocking the enzymes that produce prostaglandins, responsible for pain and inflammation in the body.
